One of the key features engineered on the crosshead design is the mechanically assisted gum space (MAGS) adjustment system. Hot cast polyurethane MDI system for wheels
A producer of industrial wheels and castors has expanded its product portfolio to include extra-large custom-made wheels. The move follows a technical development project with Tecnothane hot cast polyurethane MDI system experts from Tecnoelastomeri. After consulting Huntsman Tecnoelastomeri about the best materials to use to supersize its range, Räder-Vogel is now offering its customers tailor-made wheels with a diamter of more than 1,500 mm. The wheels are being offered under the company's Pevotec brand, an extensive line of wheels and castors designed for use in extreme operating conditions. Pevotec wheels are based on the Tecnothane hot cast polyurethane MDI system. Characterized by their flexibility, castors and wheels in the Pevotec range are said to be renowned for their ability to carry heavy loads, even where mounting space is tight. Well equipped to handle extreme stress and temperature variations, they are said to be ideal for heavy duty tasks. A wide range of Tecnothane hot cast polyurethane MDI systems is offered by the company, along with the skills to help adapt the material's chemical and physical properties to meet the needs of its customers. The first extra-large Pevotec wheels developed by Räder-Vogel are said to be performing well. The wheels are used in forging manipulators. Offering trouble-free transportation, the wheels are coping with extreme stress and temperature challenges, consigning different types of damage, such as cracking and flattening, to the past, according to the company.

Tire mold cleaning system provides automation An automated tire mold cleaning system features a precision nozzle manipulator with three axes of movement. The custom pressure-blast machine is engineered to clean both two-piece and segmented molds. The roof-mounted nozzle motion system directs the blast from four pressure nozzles rigidly bracketed in position on the wrist of the programmable manipulator. The horizontal and vertical range of nozzle motion accommodates molds of various diameters and tread widths, while the third axis precisely controls the pitch or angle of impingement of the blast stream to facilitate rapid and thorough cleaning of details of target surfaces. Twin powered turntables of 78" diameter and 6,600 pound weight capacity are mounted on a motor-driven transfer cart that rolls on tracks extending from each side of the blast cabinet. This table configuration allows unloading and loading of tire molds to be accomplished during the blast cleaning cycle using an overhead crane or hoist. Pneumatically actuated vertical sliding doors seal the cleaning chamber during the automated cleaning process. A manual touch-up station at the front of the machine is provided with covered armholes and a separate pressure-blast nozzle, and is interlocked to prevent its use during automatic operation of the mold cleaning system. Each different mold in the tooling inventory is associated with a programmed cleaning routine that synchronizes nozzle movements with the direction and speed of rotation of the mold. The mold cleaning system's programmable automation controller (PAC) is capable of storing and recalling dimensional data and process parameters for more than 100 different tire molds. Programmable automation control enables use of electronic sensor technology to monitor a variety of critical system functions, including detection of low media level, inadequate compressed air pressure and full dust drum. A custom-designed touch screen interface linked to the programmable automation control graphically displays information on fault conditions, as well as process data.

Multiple extrusion head Use of silica-based compounds for the tread portion of a tire is said to have led to impressive tire performance increases. Since silica compounds have poor electro-conductivity, today's tire designers apply a thin portion of carbon black-based compound to the tread, which avoids the electrostatic charge in the tire. The X+1 piggy-back extrusion principle is offered for the economical extrusion of an additional rubber portion. The design of the upper head part of a piggy-back extrusion unit was re-engineered. The additional extruder is part of the upper movable head part of a triplex (X=3) or quadruplex (X=4) extrusion unit. The extrusion tools can be used without laborious modification work or design changes. An advantage of the X+1 solution is that the company's existing multiplex extrusion heads can be upgraded to the new technology to save customers from buying a complete new head. Standard components are used for the extruder itself, and for the extrusion tools and feeding device.

Inline process control
Rhenowave inline process control has been developed for manufacturers of tires, profiles, technical rubber goods and rubber compounds to enable them to reliably monitor, for example, the dispersion quality of rubber compounds during extrusion. Analysis data are collected continuously inline, i.e., during production, and provide information on quality for the entire production volume, not just for certain test pieces. Rhenowave is installed on the head of the existing extruder. Measurement is performed volumetrically, non-destructively and representatively. This is said to iron out weaknesses of the conventional test procedure, where a sample is taken and later analyzed in a laboratory. With Rhenowave, the compound quality is evaluated in less than a second once the compound has left the extruder (inline control). Up to 100% of the compound can be analyzed in this way. Areas where compound quality is insufficient can be recognized quickly rather than later in the finished product.

Supersincro is a fully robotized weighing system for ingredients, granting consistent quality on the masterbatches and compound preparation and strict control of rubber and plastic production. The system is modular, depending on the number of ingredients used, and can be expanded and integrated with the company's optional systems for assisted pre-weighed ingredients, for robotized management of boxes and pallets, etc. Supersincro consists of a number of independent storage silos, each containing a different ingredient, placed in two rows over a modular structure, under which advance in sequence special metal containers fitted with automatically heat-formed bags, generated from tubular plastic film. Every module of the structure can host 10 standard silos that can be loaded by means of depression, by a vacuum pump or from the top of the silos by gravity. As an option for large use ingredients, one or more pneumatic transfer stations from big bags into the silos can be installed. Each silo is fitted with an endless screw device, allowing precise and fast dispensing of the various ingredients. At each cycle, the bag-suited containers, sitting on moving trays, are stepper moved on a U route below the silos.
