Kneader extruders
The AMK kneader extruder is said to combine the efficiency of a double-arm mixer with the convenience of an extrusion screw. Said to be ideal for compounding extremely viscous masses, this heavy-duty machine is said to thoroughly mix and discharge product in any desired form through a customizable die assembly. Compared to conventional double-arm mixers, the kneader extruder is said to offer improved handling, faster cycle times and safer operation, according to the manufacturer. The sigma blades of a kneader extruder turn at different speeds and opposite reversible directions. Shafts are fitted with specially hardened and polished bushings. Located in a cavity beneath the sigma blades is the extrusion discharge screw. During the mix cycle, the screw assists in cutting and reducing solids while continuously moving materials within reach of the mixing blades, an action that helps to shorten cycle times by up to 20% compared to traditional tilt-type kneading equipment, according to the company. The screw is easily removable for complete cleaning.

900F walk-in oven The No. 846 is a 900F (482C) high temperature walk-in oven, currently used for pre-heating steel molds at a customer's facility. Workspace dimensions measure 50" wide by 96" deep by 96" high. A 7,800 cfm, 5 hp recirculating blower provides combination airflow to the workload. This walk-in oven features 8" thick insulated walls, a 6" insulated floor, an aluminized steel interior and exterior, plus a removable top-mounted heat chamber. The Type 304, 2B finish stainless steel heat chamber interior consists of two independent doors, front and rear, for access to workspace, each opening 40" high. Features include inner and outer door gaskets, with an inner gasket that seals directly against the door plug, and the outer gasket seals directly against the front face of the oven. The floor of each opening is reinforced for 5,000 pounds of loading at a removable subway grate. Controls on the No. 846 include a digital programming and recording temperature control and a manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors, plus a recirculating blower air flow safety switch.

Tire mold cleaning system has precision nozzle An automated tire mold cleaning system has been designed and built by the company, and features a precision nozzle manipulator with three axes of movement. The custom pressure-blast machine is engineered to clean both two-piece and segmented molds. The roof-mounted nozzle motion system directs the blast from four pressure nozzles rigidly bracketed in position on the wrist of the programmable manipulator. The horizontal and vertical range of nozzle motion accommodates molds of various diameters and tread widths, while the third axis precisely controls the pitch or angle of impingement of the blast stream to facilitate rapid and thorough cleaning of details of target surfaces. Twin powered turntables of 78" in diameter and 6,600 pound weight capacity are mounted on a motor-driven transfer cart that rolls on tracks extending from each side of the blast cabinet. This table configuration allows unloading and loading of tire molds to be accomplished during the blast cleaning cycle using an overhead crane or hoist. Pneumatically actuated vertical sliding doors seal the cleaning chamber during the automated cleaning process. A manual touch-up station at the front of the machine is provided with covered armholes and a separate pressure-blast nozzle, and is interlocked to prevent its use during automatic operation of the mold cleaning system. Each different mold in the tooling inventory is associated with a programmed cleaning routine that synchronizes nozzle movements with the direction and speed of rotation of the mold. The mold cleaning system's programmable automation controller is capable of storing and recalling dimensional data and process parameters for more than 100 different tire molds. PAC control enables use of electronic sensor technology to monitor a variety of critical system functions, including detection of low media level, inadequate compressed air pressure and full dust drum. A custom-designed touch screen interface linked to the PAC graphically displays information on fault conditions.

Laser mold cleaning The MLC 500 is said to be a quick and effective alternative to traditional cleaning solutions for rubber and polymer injection and compression molds. The laser operates on horizontal, vertical or inclined surfaces, and complex shapes. Cleaning cycle time compared to traditional methods is said to be cut by 75%. Automatic stripping of core-molded EPDM seals A simple and economical solution is provided for the stripping process of core-molded EPDM pipe seals. When performed manually, the stripping process is often very difficult and productivity is considerably impacted. When being performed automatically, the challenge is to do it quickly, without any heat loss and without production stoppages due to overlapping seals. Solutions generally implemented in the industry today, such as molding with two sets of rotating core bars, require a very large press opening stroke to perform the core bar rotation outside the press and/or front and rear stripping units that lead to considerable space requirements and very high capital costs. Having recently worked on several projects, this company offers its customers a competitive and profitable turnkey solution for reduced size on the automatic stripping of EPDM pipe seals of any size. The solution can be matched to any seal size. It is based on conveyor belts equipped with rotating belts, allowing for the individual stripping of the seals. The spacing between the bottom and top belts can be easily adjusted, thanks to a mechanical stopper system, thus making it possible to switch over from one seal type to another. The rotation speeds of the top and bottom belts can also be adjusted independently. The belts are designed in compliance with a multi-layer technology, in order to ensure the reliability of the stripping process and the speed, while observing the quality of the stripped parts. In addition, the core bar in/out speeds on the kit (low/high speed, depending on the stroke limit) can be controlled. The kit is fully retractable for easy access to the cores on the rear side of the machine.
